Information systems can become very boring if one is only reading about them. The fun part is in the do-it-yourself approach that is advocated in this textbook. The student is encouraged to go through these four tutorials to get a good practical understanding of the concepts discussed in the book.

  1. Create a blog. This is the first step in doing something practical, constructive and useful on the web.
  2. Practise SQL. Relational databases and SQL are the most fundamental building blocks in any information systems.
  3. Create a Cloud Application. Use a free, simple tool to build your own application in the cloud.
  4. Install a Web Application. Learn how to install a free, open source customer service application on the web.

The tutorials are in the form of Google Docs presentations that may be modified depending on the feedback from users.
